Day 1: On arrival in Munich airport, our local representative will meet you and transfer you across the German Austrian border to your hotel in Kitzbuhel, a small Alpine town located in the western Austrian province of Tyrol. You will have some free time to get to know your surroundings before an orientation meeting with your tour leader and expert walking mountain guide. There will be two walking routes, moderate and challenging, on offer on all walking days throughout this holiday. During the orientation meeting your local expert mountain guide will explain what can be expected in terms of distance, terrain and physical fitness needed for both the moderate and challenging walks.
Day 2: Today’s walk will bring you through the rolling hills of the Bichlachs to Hasenberger, Vogelsberger and Gieringer where your starting point will be the beautiful Schwarzsee Lake. The Bichlach isn’t comparable with anything else in Tyrol. This soft hill region, lies between sharp mountains such as the Wilder Kaiser or the Kitzbuheler Horn. Often referred to as the ‘front yard’ of Kitzbuhel, the Bichlachs is full of hiking routes, with many pathways of various heights. A packed lunch will be included.
Day 3: Today you will hike along one of the most spectacular downhill ski race tracks in the world, the Streif, on a mixture of smooth path and, at times, rocky steep terrain. Enjoy the fresh mountain air, the colourful flowers on the wide alpine pastures and the soft grass mountains. A packed lunch will be included.
Day 4: Today will be a full day at leisure to spend as you wish in the charming town of Kitzbuhel. You may simply relax at your hotel or independently explore the streets of this mountain town. Your local guide will be happy to suggest activities to suit your interests.
Day 5: Depart your hotel for a full day scenic walking tour of the Kitzbuheler horn in the Kitzbuheler Alps. Today’s walk will bring you to a view point to the snow-capped peaks of the Alps on a combination of forest terrain and some wooden paths. The grass-covered mountains, flower meadows and Alpine pastures offer a stunning setting for today’s adventure. Well maintained paths lead up to Kitzbuheler Horn, offering captivating views of the whole area below. A packed lunch will be included.
Day 6: Today you will head to the Krimml Waterfall along trails that have been used for centuries. Standing at 340m, this is the highest Austrian waterfall. There are 23 glaciers in the area. The walk will be a combination of forest trails and small roads and will give intermittent views of the spectacular falls. A packed lunch will be included.
Day 7: Today the moderate route will begin with a hike starting from the centre of Scheffau, a village set at the south-west foothills of the Kaiser mountain range. You will hike along a path at the edge of the forest taking in Hinterschießlingalm, the authentic alpine pasture of Kaiseralm and Seilabodenkreuz. From the panoramic road you will have a view of the Wilder Kaiser, a chain of mountains, formed predominantly of bare limestone rock. From here the hike will begin to go downhill back towards the pasture of the Kaiseralm before continuing to the alpine hut of Wegscheid Niederalm and arriving back at the starting point of Scheffau.
Day 8: You will have one final morning at leisure in the charming Alpine town of Kitzbuhel to spend as you wish. This is the perfect time to do any last minute sightseeing or shopping. The choice is all yours.
