Upon arrival, meet your tour manager and transfer to your hotel in the heart of the city. The rest of the day is yours to spend relaxing and exploring your new surroundings, perhaps choosing to dine in one of the city’s innumerable eateries.
Wrap up warm this morning and join your tour manager for a guided introduction to Prague. The city is compact – perfect for walking – and divided into two distinct parts by the River Vlatava, which is crossed in the city’s heart by the iconic 16-arched medieval Charles Bridge. On the east side of the bridge is the exquisitely beautiful Old Town, or Staré Mesto, the heart of Prague since the 13th Century. The Old Town is home to the delightful Old Town Square, where the city’s Christmas tree and markets are to be found, and the location of the fascinating 600-year-old Prague Astronomical Clock, which is the oldest operating clock in the world. On the western edge of the Old Town is the New Town (Nové Mesto), with Wenceslas Square – more a wide boulevard – and your hotel at its heart. As you walk from the Old Town across Charles Bridge, you’ll arrive in Malá Strana, with its narrow, cobbled-stone streets, pretty churches and 18th-century Baroque palaces. Continue through Malá Strana and you’ll come to the steeply sloping Hradcany district, dominated by the imposing Prague Castle and St Vitus Cathedral, burial place of the ‘Good King’ Wenceslas and the Czech Republic’s largest church. The energetic who wish to climb the 200+ stairs up to imposing Prague Castle will be rewarded with magnificent vistas of the city. This morning’s tour is followed by a leisurely cruise on the Vltava River. An included light lunch will be served on board as you gain a different perspective on the city’s sights. Your first full day in Prague ends with an included dinner at your hotel in the early evening.
The four-star Hotel Amarilis is conveniently located in the centre of Prague's New Town, just five minutes' walk from Wenceslas Square.
