Day 3
Head away from the modern city, today, and cross to the Nile's fabled West Bank, to visit the awe-inspiring Valley of the Kings. Here, in 1922, Howard Carter and Lord Carnarvon discovered the sand-blocked entrance to the treasure trove that was the tomb and monument of Tutankhamun. Your visit will take you to the Temple of the female Pharaoh, Hatshepsut, and gaze in awe at the twin Colossi of Memnon, which once stood guard at the entrance to a vast temple. Get a glimpse back through time into one of the most fascinating epochs of world history, as the lives and culture of the Ancient Egyptians are brought thrillingly to life.
This evening, as a fitting climax to your stay in Luxor, join an optional excursion to see the stirring Son et Lumière at the temple, which pays homage to the pharaohs and recreates the great procession through the ruins to the sacred lake beyond.
Day 4
Our final tour in Luxor takes us to the staggering Temple of Karnak, where the vast columns of the Great Hypostyle Hall – said to be able to contain 10 cathedrals – dwarf visitors to this immense monument.
This afternoon, bid farewell to Luxor and travel back across the timeless landscape to the shores of the Red Sea where, in contrast to Luxor’s antiquities, all the modern comforts of your beach resort await. Settle in to your hotel, and get to know your sun-kissed surroundings, where rest and relaxation are very much the order of the rest of the day.
Day 5
Enjoy a fun-filled day as you join your fellow guests aboard a day-cruiser, heading away from Hurghada to putter up and down the coastline and making the most of the crystal clear, warm waters. Swim or snorkel, catching glimpses of colourful marine life, and enjoy lunch and soft drinks on a Red Sea island as you spend a perfect day under sunny skies.
Day 6
Head inland once again, today, as you enjoy an exciting guided safari by 4x4 into the desert sands of the Sahara. Take in the other-worldly colours of the ever-shifting landscape, and visit a Bedouin village to learn about the lives of the nomadic peoples that have made this harsh environment their home for millennia. Later, enjoy a barbecue under canvas and the opportunity to take a camel ride across the sands.
Day 7
Make the most of a last full day in the Egyptian sunshine, whether in total relaxation or in more active pursuits in the resort or on the water. Alternatively, you may wish to join a city tour of Hurghada.
This evening, join your fellow guests for a final holiday dinner.
Day 8
Bid farewell to your Egyptian hosts, and transfer to the airport to check in for your flight home to the UK.
