Diverse, cultural cities, breath-takingly unspoilt sceneries, incredible wildlife and a plethora of unique activities – Canada is a truly dynamic and unmissable destination.

With plenty for families, single travellers, and honeymooners alike, Canada can be experienced by anyone and everyone, and all year round too. Head here for sunny hikes, picturesque coastal cities and water sports in the summer, or venture to the Rockies for skiing, snowboarding, and glacier trekking in the winter.

What could be more enticing than a trip to Canada? Here’s a guide for what to expect when you explore the country’s fascinating landscapes.

Vibrant Cities

Whilst cities usually conjure up the image of gigantic buildings, modern attractions and bustling atmospheres, Canada’s cities offer a more cultural experience.

Toronto is a contemporary city, home to many sporting events, the Toronto International Film Festival, and of course the iconic CN Tower with its 360-degree views and rotating restaurant.

Meanwhile, Montreal’s classical architecture is reminiscent of its European and North American influences, whilst Quebec’s cobblestone streets and 17th Century European style is clearly inspired by its French origin. Ottawa, Canada’s capital, is also a  fantastic culture hub. Jazz festivals, Parliament Buildings, the picturesque Rideau Canal – this city is certainly characterful.

Vancouver is a gateway to the Canadian Rockies, surrounded by soaring mountains, luscious forests and pretty coastlines. It’s also a brilliant place to see celebrities too – known as Hollywood North, this eclectic city is one of the world’s most popular filming locations.  Victoria is just as ideal for active travellers – its plethora of activities including whale watching, hiking and kayaking can be enjoyed all year round.

Stunning Landscapes

Lying across British Columbia and Alberta, the Canadian Rockies’ emerald green flora is contrasted with bright azure lakes, whilst icy peaks jut out into the sky. Banff and Jasper’s mountains offer an unforgettable view of the never-ending sceneries, whilst the Icefields Parkway’s glaciers entice adventurous travellers. You won’t believe your eyes when you see the sparling topaz of Lake Louise, and the area’s tallest peak, Mount Robson, is certainly a sight to see. Should you desire a luxury trip, we’d recommend exploring the area on board the Rocky Mountaineer.

One of the seven natural wonders of North America, Niagara Falls is certainly unmissable, and with such a jaw-dropping sight of thunderous waterfalls and incredible sprays, it’ll come as no surprise that so many flock here. A tour on board the Maid of the Mist is one of the best ways to see it, leading you straight to the spray area for a breath-taking view.

Wonderful Wildlife

With so many amazing landscapes, it’s no wonder that Canada is teeming with incredible wildlife spotting opportunities. Elegant bald eagles, gigantic bears, elusive humpback and orca whales, graceful dolphin and belugas…Canada is a wildlife enthusiast’s dream.

Those hoping to unveil the heart-stopping moment of spotting a wild bear should head to the Vancouver Island area, the Queen Charlotte Islands and the north of British Columbia, where many enormous grizzly’s and brown bears roam, meanwhile elusive polar bears reside in the northern parts of Manitoba from October to November.

More of a marine life lover? Hudson Bay is thriving with unique beluga whales – you could even snorkel alongside them – or wander to Nova Scotia and you’ll be rewarded with astonishing views of humpback whales.

Twitchers will love Canada’s landscapes too. Home to over 400 species of birds, including the Ptarmigan, Smith’s Longspur and Ross’ Gull, Canada’s charming coastlines are a bird-lover’s paradise.

Activities & Experiences

Canada is an astounding playground for adventurous travellers hoping for a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Take to the trees and venture along the scenic Capilano Suspension Bridge across the Capilano River, or journey even higher and dare to hang from Toronto’s CN Tower.

Those wanting to keep their feet firmly on the ground (or water), will love an unforgettable view of Niagara Falls from Maid of the Mist –or you could kayak your way down rocky rapids for an added bit of splash. Daring families will relish an afternoon spent in Calgary’s Olympic Park too – once the location for the 1988 Winter Olympics, this fun park is now host to an exhilarating zip line.

As for experiences, Canada is brimming with cultural wonders, including the country’s largest living history museum - Heritage Park. Spanning Western Canadian history from the 1860s to the 1950s, you’ll be transported back in time to see an authentic steam train, a traditional bakery, horse-drawn carriages and more.
