The Outback has its own spin on racing, here locals used it camels, and the Boulia Camel Races is a brilliant day out. Attracting more than 3000 people, there are fireworks, bands, magicians and markets as well as running humped mammal to keep you entertained. Meanwhile, those with a sense of humour should head over to Winton, where they hold the annual Dunny Races (racing with toilet cubicles).

This non-profit natural history museum in Winton welcomes your participation in uncovering the secrets of the past. It holds the largest collection of Australian dinosaur fossils and volunteers can drill the soil off bones or take part in an annual dinosaur dig each August.

Travel 200km along the most distinctive cattle trail in Australia, made famous by cattle thief Harry Redford (aka Captain Starlight), this is the place to learn the secrets of horsemanship, develop your droving knowledge, set up a campfire and witness spectacular sunrises and sunsets.
