Day 3
Enjoy a guided introduction to Verona, during which the city’s ancient, colourful squares and buildings fashioned from pink marble will be brought to life. After the tour, you'll have the rest of the day free. Lose yourself in the maze of 13th-century streets that form the backdrop to Shakespeare’s tale of star-crossed lovers, or take a seat in a café sweeping Piazza Bra, in the shadow of the great amphitheatre, to watch the world go by.
This evening, take your place inside the amphitheatre and soak up the atmosphere as darkness begins to fall and the grand sweep of the Arena's vast stage is set for the performance of your opera. Here, on balmy summer nights, often with the stars twinkling overhead or the moon shining brightly, some of the world’s best-loved works are performed in front of a rapt audience drawn from all four corners of the world, by some of opera's brightest talents.
For opera buffs, enthusiastic amateurs and lovers of special occasions, a night at the Verona Opera Festival provides a memorable experience to treasure forever.
Day 4
After a relaxed breakfast, board the coach and explore the bucolic countryside of the Riviera del Brenta, a 25-mile route that runs along a 16th-century canal built to connect the Venetian lagoon with Padua, and that is lined with some extraordinarily beautiful and ornate villas.
Discover renowned Villa Pisani, the Queen of the Brenta villas and a national museum that includes a stunning fresco on the ceiling of its grand ballroom and a famous maze in its formal gardens. A perfect day is completed with a visit to lovingly restored, fun-loving Padua. Once a Roman stronghold, this delightful, enchanting university city is home to the famous Scrovegni Chapel and its Giotti frescoes. Explore its museums, great churches and colourful markets, and wander colourful Prato della Valle - Italy’s largest town square - then return to Verona for a last evening.
